What changes in Traditional Chinese

繁體中文

This is the Chinese-language market with no compliance gate. Taiwan and Hong Kong are open to any developer account with no ICP filing, no local entity, and no publishing agent. If mainland China has been sitting on your someday list because of the paperwork, this is the half of the Chinese-language audience you can ship to this week.

What breaks in Traditional Chinese

Traditional characters carry more strokes than their simplified counterparts at the same character count, so text is similarly compact but visually denser. Small caption sizes lose legibility faster than they do in Simplified.

1

Denser glyphs than Simplified, so the same point size reads smaller and muddier

2

No inter-word spaces, so whitespace line breaking does not apply

3

Hong Kong and Taiwan differ in vocabulary, so one translation can read as foreign in the other

4

Full-width punctuation spacing, as with every Han script

How it works

You type. The canvas builds.

Describe your app, see your first set, then ask for Traditional Chinese. The layout survives the language change because you are editing the same set, not starting a new one.

Questions & Answers

Does Traditional Chinese need an ICP filing?

No. The ICP filing requirement applies to the China mainland storefront. Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau have no equivalent gate, so any developer account can ship a zh-Hant localization to them.

Can I reuse my Simplified Chinese translation?

Converting the characters is mechanical, but the vocabulary is not. Terms diverge enough that a straight conversion reads as visibly foreign to a Taiwanese or Hong Kong reader. Treat it as a separate translation pass rather than a character swap.

Is one zh-Hant localization enough for both Taiwan and Hong Kong?

App Store Connect gives you one Traditional Chinese localization, so yes in the mechanical sense. Where the two markets use different terms for the same thing, most indie developers pick the larger of their two audiences and accept the compromise.
