Kannada is the state language of Karnataka, whose capital is Bangalore. That makes it the localization with the highest concentration of software-buying users of any Indian language, and one almost nobody has shipped because it only became possible in 2026.
India.
This localization did not exist before 31 March 2026. Apple added it in the eleven-language expansion it framed around India, so most listings in this market are still English by default rather than by decision.

What breaks in Kannada
Kannada glyphs are individually wider than Latin ones, so the expansion shows up as width even where the word count holds steady. Like Telugu it attaches conjuncts below the base letter, so the line box grows downward at the same time. Width and depth both move, which is why a Kannada caption in an English-sized box tends to fail in two directions at once.
Kannada glyphs are wider than Latin ones, so the same character count occupies noticeably more room
Conjuncts attach below the base letter, so the line needs descender depth Latin metrics do not reserve
Vowel signs attach above and to the right, meaning growth happens on three sides of the base letter
The script is close enough to Telugu to look interchangeable to a non-reader, and is not
You type. The canvas builds.
Describe your app, see your first set, then ask for Kannada. The layout survives the language change because you are editing the same set, not starting a new one.

Questions & Answers
Is Kannada worth it when Bangalore works in English?
Bangalore’s technology workforce does work in English, and that population is already reachable by your English listing. Karnataka is much larger than Bangalore. The localization buys you the rest of the state, and it costs one translation pass because the layout does not need rebuilding.
Kannada and Telugu look similar. Can I share a translation?
No. They are distinct languages with distinct scripts that share some visual DNA, roughly the way Latin and Cyrillic do. App Store Connect treats kn and te as unrelated localizations, and a Kannada reader does not read Telugu.
Why does my Kannada caption overflow when the English one fit?
Kannada glyphs are wider than Latin ones and its conjuncts descend below the baseline, so a box tuned to English is too small in both width and height. Our engine measures Kannada with its own advance widths instead of applying the Latin factor.
When did Kannada become available on the App Store?
On 31 March 2026, in the eleven-language expansion. A Kannada listing was not possible before then, which is why the field is close to empty.
