What changes in Russian

Русский

Be clear-eyed about this one. Apple stopped all App Store transactions and subscription renewals in Russia on 2 April 2026, so the storefront is now effectively free-downloads-only: you cannot monetize into it and a Russia-based developer cannot be paid out of it. A ru localization still reaches Russian-speaking users in other storefronts, which is where its remaining value is.

Know this before you localize

Apple halted App Store payments in Russia on 2 April 2026. The storefront still serves free downloads, but paid apps, in-app purchases and subscription renewals do not process. Localize for reach and for Russian speakers outside Russia, not for revenue inside it.

What breaks in Russian

Russian expands modestly in character count but its words are individually long, so narrow slots break before wide ones do. Cyrillic also sets slightly wider than Latin at the same point size.

Individually long words break narrow slots before the overall length becomes a problem

Cyrillic sets slightly wider than Latin at the same point size

3

Fonts without a proper Cyrillic subset fall back and render inconsistently

4

Uppercase Cyrillic loses the ascender variety that makes Latin headlines scannable

How it works

You type. The canvas builds.

Describe your app, see your first set, then ask for Russian. The layout survives the language change because you are editing the same set, not starting a new one.

Questions & Answers

Can I still make money from the Russian App Store?

No. Apple stopped all App Store transactions and subscription renewals in Russia on 2 April 2026. Free downloads still work, so the storefront is a distribution channel rather than a revenue one.

Is a Russian localization still worth adding?

Only for reach. The ru localization serves anyone whose device language is Russian in any storefront, not just inside Russia, and there are substantial Russian-speaking populations in other markets. If your goal is revenue, spend the effort on Japanese or German instead.

Does Cyrillic render correctly in exported screenshots?

Yes, and it is verified in the rendered pixels rather than in preview only. The set on this page is a real Russian render of the same five frames, not a mockup of one.
