Do iPad screenshots need to be 12.9-inch or 13-inch?
Verified against Apple, App Store Connect Help on
iPad screenshots must be uploaded at 12.9 inches, 2048 x 2732 pixels.
Why it is wrong: That was the required iPad slot for years, which is why it is the number most tutorials still give. Apple consolidated the requirement onto the 13-inch size, and 2048 x 2732 is now one of two accepted dimensions for that 13-inch slot rather than a separate requirement of its own. The pixel count people remember is still valid; the slot they associate it with is not.
What does App Store Connect require now?
A 13-inch set, for any app that runs on iPad. Two portrait dimensions are accepted:
- 2064 x 2752
- 2048 x 2732
Both satisfy the requirement. The devices behind that slot are the M5 and M4 iPad Pro, the 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd and 1st generation iPad Pro, and the M2, M3 and M4 iPad Air.
Read that list again: the 2nd generation is missing from it, and that is not a typo on Apple's part. The 2nd-generation iPad Pro is the entire contents of the separate 12.9-inch slot below.
Is 12.9-inch gone?
No, and this is where the confusion comes from. A 12.9-inch slot still exists, listed for the 2nd-generation iPad Pro at 2048 x 2732. It is optional. If you do not upload it, Apple uses scaled 13-inch screenshots.
So the familiar 2048 x 2732 number is correct in both places, which is exactly why the stale advice is hard to spot: you can follow it, produce a valid file, and still be reasoning about the wrong slot.
Which should you export?
2064 x 2752, the larger of the two 13-inch options. It satisfies the required slot at native resolution and everything below it scales down from there.
Does an iPhone-only app need any of this?
No. The iPad requirement applies only if the app runs on iPad. If your app is iPhone-only, one 6.9-inch set is the entire requirement.
