App Store
What is the App Store?
The App Store is the curated marketplace Apple operates for distributing software to Apple devices. Apple controls the review process, the payment infrastructure, and the discovery surfaces (search, charts, editorial features, and Today tab).
For developers, the App Store is both a distribution channel and a marketing surface. The store listing (screenshots, app icon, name, subtitle, description, preview video) is the conversion mechanism that turns search impressions into installs.
How is the App Store structured?
Each app has a single "product page" identified by an App Store ID. The product page renders one of three things depending on traffic source: the default listing, a Custom Product Page variant, or a Product Page Optimization treatment under A/B test. Apps can also localize the product page into 50 supported languages and regions as of March 2026.
Why does the App Store matter for screenshots?
Screenshots occupy the most visible real estate on every product page. Apple shows up to ten per device family, but only the first two or three appear above the fold on search results. The screenshot layer is where most conversion is won or lost: studies cite up to 30 percent conversion impact from screenshot changes alone.
