Product Page Optimization(PPO)
Also known as: PPO
What is Product Page Optimization (PPO)?
Product Page Optimization (PPO) is the A/B testing feature in App Store Connect that lets developers test variations of the default product page against the original. It launched in iOS 15 alongside Custom Product Pages and runs natively inside Apple's infrastructure, with no third-party testing tool required.
Each PPO test compares the default page (control) against up to three treatment variants. Apple randomly distributes incoming organic traffic across the control and treatments at a developer-specified split. Tests run for a fixed period (commonly 30 to 90 days) and Apple reports the conversion rates per variant in App Store Connect Analytics.
What can PPO test?
PPO supports three test types: screenshot variants (alternate screenshot sets, up to 10 per device family), app preview video poster frames (the static image shown before video play), and app icon variants. Each test is one of these three types; you cannot test all three simultaneously in a single PPO experiment.
How is PPO different from web A/B testing?
PPO measures install conversion rate (the proportion of product page visitors who tap "Get" or "Buy"). It does not measure downstream metrics like activation, retention, or revenue. For those, developers combine PPO with Apple's App Analytics or third-party attribution tools like Adjust, Adapty, or Appsflyer.
Statistical confidence is computed by Apple. Most product teams treat a 95-percent confidence interval with a meaningful effect size (5 percent or higher conversion lift) as the bar to declare a winner.
